Requirements For Admission

Age: minimum 16 years old

Licence Requirement

Age: An applicant must be a minimum of 16 years of age

Medical Fitness: Medical Category 1,3 or 4
Knowledge:

  • An applicant shall have obtained a minimum of 60 percent (60%) in each of the following four mandatory areas, as well as in the overall written examination Pilot Permit – Recreational – Aeroplane ( RPPAE ), or Private Pilot Licence – Aeroplane ( PPAER ):
    • Air Law – regulations, rules and orders, air traffic services, practices and procedures, and licensing requirements relevant to the permit;
    • Navigation – navigation, radio aids and electronic theory;
    • Meteorology;
    • Aeronautics – General Knowledge – airframes, engines and systems, theory of flight, flight instruments, flight operations and human factors.

Experience: 25 hours of total flight training under the direction and supervision of a holder of a flight instructor rating – airplane in airplanes operating with a Certificate of Airworthiness.

  • The flight training shall include a minimum of:
    1.  15 hours dual instruction flight time, including a minimum of 2 hours cross-country flight time, and
    2.  5 hours solo flight time.

Skill

Within the 12 months preceding the date of application for the permit, an applicant shall successfully complete a flight test in accordance with:

      • Schedule 2 “Flight Test for the Issuance of a Recreational Pilot Permit – Aeroplane” of Standard 428 – Conduct of Flight Tests
      • OR Schedule 3 “Flight Test for the Issuance of a Private Pilot Licence – Aeroplane” of Standard 428 – Conduct of Flight Tests

The estimated total above is based on Cessna 152 not including the application and administration fees. All prices listed are before tax.

INSTRUCTOR PRICE: $70/HR

The estimated total above includes Ground School which is not a requirement for the Recreational Pilot Permit. However, it is strongly recommended that students pursuing this permit attend Ground School classes.

The estimated total above is based on Transport Canada minimum requirements. The length of training depends on a number of factors and costs will vary accordingly. Any additional training will be charged at the same hourly rates listed above. Aircraft costs may change based on fuel prices.

The estimated total above does not include any external cost that the student maybe required to pay outside of Acadia College such as the medical exam, written exam, and flight test.

If you have previous flight experience, then these records should be traceable and acceptable to Transport Canada and will be credited subject to Transport Canada rules and regulations.

The Recreational Pilot Permit course does not require approval from Private Training Institution Branch.
